Table Talk is a collection of stories, kind words, and shared experiences from the people who’ve learned, played, laughed, and gathered with Bamboo & Boxwoods. Whether it was a first lesson, a social night, or the moment the game finally started to click, these are the moments that make us love what we do.

From around the table:

“My wife and I had been trying for years to find someone who could provide Mahjongg lessons after work hours. We found Christy and her company, Bamboo and Boxwoods, in February, and we couldn’t have been happier.
We had two formal lessons and one guided play session with two other friends. Christy and Megan are outstanding instructors and wonderful ambassadors of the game. They are thorough, genuinely passionate about Mahjongg, and their instruction methods are thoughtfully planned. Most importantly, we never felt overwhelmed.
We practiced quite a bit at home, both one-on-one and with friends who already played, but I really gained confidence by attending the social play events hosted by Bamboo and Boxwoods. Playing with people I didn’t know pushed me outside my comfort zone and helped me become much more confident in my game. It also gave me the confidence to seek out open-play opportunities throughout North Georgia and start competing.
Since then, I’ve joined a league, participated in a two-month scramble, and I’m getting ready for my first tournament in October.
Bamboo and Boxwoods gave us the foundation, skills, and confidence to not only learn Mahjongg, but to truly love the game and become good at it.”

My daughter and I had the absolute best time at Mahjong 101 with Bamboo & Boxwoods last night! 🀄️💙

Christy was a wonderful instructor — so welcoming, patient, knowledgeable, and encouraging. She did an amazing job breaking down the basics and making the game feel easy, fun, and approachable. She explained everything so clearly, answered all of our questions, and created such a relaxed and enjoyable learning environment.

Megan was also fantastic during the guided play portion, helping us put what we had learned into practice and making the experience even more fun.

It was especially special to be able to learn mahjong together with my daughter, and we both left feeling excited to keep playing and learning more. We had such a great experience and would highly recommend Mahjong 101 with Bamboo & Boxwoods to anyone interested in learning the game!

Thank you, Christy and Megan, for such a fun evening!

“The lesson was absolutely thorough & so easy to understand & follow. It made so much sense for me as a beginner! The tips, understanding the tiles, helping to understand the card. Would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn or is just beginning. Christy was amazing, fun, & PATIENT!! Will go again! Thank you, Christy! I really enjoyed the evening!”

“I’ve been intimidated by mahjong for a while, but when I had the chance to learn from Christy, I left feeling confident and capable. She’s a wonderful teacher — not just explaining the technique, but also sharing really interesting history of the game. She created a low-pressure environment that made mahjong feel fun instead of daunting!”

I am so glad I found Bamboo and Boxwoods for Mahjong lessons! My friend and I recently attended a class with Christy, and she was absolutely delightful. Her love for the game shines through, and she was incredibly patient, kind, and caring throughout the entire lesson.

Christy started by sharing the history of Mahjong and helping us become familiar with the different tiles. She then walked us through the Mahjong card and explained how everything works in a way that was easy to understand. We had the opportunity to touch and feel the tiles, learn about their significance, and gradually work our way into actual game play.

She created such a fun, relaxed, and welcoming environment, making it easy for beginners like us to learn and enjoy the game. I highly recommend Bamboo and Boxwoods and, especially, Christy for anyone wanting to learn Mahjong!

Since then, I have been attending Open Play which is new player friendly ... still learning and loving it!! PS .. her daughter Megan is pretty amazing also if you are stuck on what to do during Open Play

4 friends had a lesson with Christy and she was so great. She was organized and none of us felt overwhelmed even though there was so much information shared. I even helped teach a family member how to play the following week because Christy gave us such a wonderful and comprehensive lesson.
