At Bamboo & Boxwoods, our mission is to celebrate the art of gathering.

We believe mahjong and game nights are more than play—they’re traditions of connection, style, and joy. With a discerning eye for design and a love of thrifting, we source and share things we find and love; lovely mahjong tiles and mats and unique vintage pieces. We offer friendly and approachable American Mahjong teaching for those eager to learn the game and join in the fun that has been bringing us together with friends old and new.

Our goal is to inspire players, support other women-owned businesses and create more opportunities to get together, share a laugh and express your individual style.

The name Bamboo & Boxwoods represents a blend of things we love.

Bamboo is one of the three tile suits in mahjong, but beyond mahjong, bamboo has long been used in classic design—elegant, traditional, and always in style. Bamboo embodies resilience—bending without breaking, flourishing with vitality, and always reaching upward. It reflects adaptability, openness, and the spirit of friendship.

Boxwoods, whether clipped or potted, are a signature of well-kept gardens: tailored and inviting. Boxwoods, evergreen and enduring, carry the tradition of refinement and elegance. They symbolize protection, reliability, and a warm welcome.

Together, they balance growth with timelessness, freshness with tradition—capturing the essence of spaces and experiences that are both joyful and enduring. They speak to a love of gracious living and elevated play. It’s a name—and a brand—for those who find joy in the details: a game table set with beautiful tiles, a classic front entry framed by boxwoods, and the company of great friends.

A note from Christy -

Hi! I’m Christy — architecture enthusiast by day and enthusiastic mahjong lover by… well, also by day (and most cozy evenings). I learned to play with the Buckhead Mahjong Club in May 2024, fell head-over-heels for the game, and now I’m sharing that joy through Bamboo & Boxwoods, my growing little mahj-meets-lifestyle venture in North Georgia. I love classic British style, good coffee, gracious hospitality, and finding beauty in everyday moments — ideally around a mahjong table with wonderful people.

Mahjong is laughter, tradition, learning, and friendship woven into one. It’s a reminder that play belongs in our lives at every stage! After a lot of online practice and in person lessons, I began discovering and collecting tiles, game mats and racks. Then I went beyond the tabletop, as I hunted for treasures at estate sales and thrift stores and second hand sales, I found myself drawn to furniture that would elevate the way a game room or Mahjong corner felt. I am drawn to vintage, quality, craftsmanship, comfort, and style. I love classic but also love the quirky, and if it’s old and well made….I swoon.

Meredith and I have been friends for decades and always look to do more together. We had the trip of a lifetime in 2024 (London then Cotswolds then London again and finally the tiny island of Malta) and found inspiration at every turn in the road. We longed to create something together and when we discovered Mahjong it brought us even more ways and reasons to get together; introducing us to amazing women and stylish gameplay.

Bamboo and Boxwoods was born in 2025 and we are putting down roots as a place to share all the beautiful and fun things we love. If you want to learn, contact us, we teach American Mahjong (following NMJL rules) to newcomers who are curious to learn and play. Meredith and I still love to play with our Buckhead Mahjong ladies and I have started to dabble in league play with the Atlanta Mahjong Mentors Dunwoody Fall League — and most nights I will get in a few online games with I Love Mahj online. I simply love to play this game!

Bird Bam Cheers Y’all! Thank you for being here and for supporting our brand and our friendship!

Let’s play, learn, and laugh together.
