The name Bamboo & Boxwoods represents a blend of things we love.

Bamboo is one of the three tile suits in mahjong, but beyond mahjong, bamboo has long been used in classic design—elegant, traditional, and always in style. Bamboo embodies resilience—bending without breaking, flourishing with vitality, and always reaching upward. It reflects adaptability, openness, and the spirit of friendship.

Boxwoods, whether clipped or potted, are a signature of well-kept gardens: tailored and inviting. Boxwoods, evergreen and enduring, carry the tradition of refinement and elegance. They symbolize protection, reliability, and a warm welcome.

Together, they balance growth with timelessness, freshness with tradition—capturing the essence of spaces and experiences that are both joyful and enduring. They speak to a love of gracious living and elevated play. It’s a name—and a brand—for those who find joy in the details: a game table set with beautiful tiles, a classic front entry framed by boxwoods, and the company of great friends.

Hi! I’m Christy. By day, I work alongside home designer Stephen Fuller, and most evenings you can find me playing Mahjong, either around a table with friends or online with I Love Mahj. (Visit our Affiliates page for a free trial link!)

I learned to play American Mahjong with the Buckhead Mahjong Club in May 2024 and promptly fell head-over-heels for the game. What began as something fun to learn quickly became something I wanted to share. Today, through Bamboo & Boxwoods, I teach new players and host social Mahjong gatherings throughout the Lake Lanier and North Georgia area.

To me, Mahjong is so much more than a game. It’s laughter, tradition, learning, and friendship all woven together. It’s also a wonderful reminder that play belongs in our lives at every stage.

My dear friend Meredith and I have been friends for decades and are always looking for another reason to spend time together. In 2024, we took the trip of a lifetime through London, the Cotswolds, back to London, and finally the tiny island of Malta. We came home inspired by beautiful places, gracious gathering, and the simple pleasure of making everyday life feel a little more special.

We had long dreamed of creating something together, and when Mahjong entered our lives, the pieces began to fall into place. It gave us even more reasons to gather, introduced us to wonderful new people, and opened the door to an entire world of stylish, social play.

Bamboo & Boxwoods was born in 2025.

Soon after, my daughter Megan fell in love with the game too and joined us, helping host socials and teach new players. In February 2026, Megan and I traveled to Dallas as Mahji Mentors with Oh My Mahjong, where we had the opportunity to play, learn, and connect with fellow Mahjong teachers from across the country.

If you’ve been curious about Mahjong, we would love to welcome you to the table. We teach American Mahjong following National Mah Jongg League rules, with classes designed especially for newcomers who want to learn in a relaxed, friendly environment.

Come learn. Come play. Come meet someone new.

Thank you for being here and for supporting Bamboo & Boxwoods. We’re so glad you found us. ♡
