From my first American Mahjong lesson, I was captivated — by the strategy and rhythm of the game, by the camaraderie, by the opportunity to meet new friends while playing a game that also sharpens my mind. It’s an elegant pastime that doesn’t require a big investment to play, but, should you choose to, there’s plenty of opportunity to elevate your game with beautiful tiles and mats and accessories to express your personal style. It’s a reason to get together with friends, to host and be hosted. I have joined a weekly league and I indulge in a fancy open play game about once a month at a lovely restaurant or unique location that my mahjong club hosts.
Here’s to many winning hands and wonderful moments ahead….Bird Bam Cheers — let’s play!
Would you like to attend or host a beginner lesson?
I’m a certified instructor with Oh My Mahjong and I love helping new players learn the game. I offer relaxed, beginner-friendly lessons to help you get started and feel right at home at the Mahjong table.
I will introduce you to the game, bring the gorgeous Oh My Mahjong tiles, mats, racks - and provide each attendee with an official NMJL card to use during our lesson.
The Details:
A private introduction to Mahjong (Mahj 101) lesson has a minimum of 4 people. We bring the game to you - we will arrive with the tiles, racks, mats, game table and chairs (if needed) and current year NMJL cards. After your first lesson you should have a general understanding of how the game is played and be able to continue playing; however, to really grasp the concepts and the strategies of play, most people prefer two to three lessons.
If you learn it, love it and want to keep playing it - we can provide you with discount codes for tiles, mats and more from our favorite shops!
Currently available to teach in: Suwanee, Sugar Hill, Cumming, Johns Creek, Duluth, Peachtree Corners, Buford, Flowery Branch and Sandy Springs.
